20thc Women- my 1906-1911 Girl's Own Annuals

Hello all Smile

I have some wonderful resources to share, it will however take time to do so as the books are fragile and require care when scanning. However I am in the process of doing so.

The Girls' Own magazine was quite an institution in its day. It contained helpful household hints as to be expected but also offered advice for women in the workforce giving real life accounts of women doctors and artists and I am sure there was an article on journalism too.
The fashion sections are fabulous and include advice on how to wear and choose a corset, and they even critiqued the very fashion plates they ran!

I will aim to scan the most interesting parts of each annual first and then go back for the recipes etc. There is a lovely article on camping in New Zealand- this magazine was British but the audience was the Commonwealth.

Tonight I shall start scanning but until then I will post the images uploaded so far:
